Using Waho safely

Waho is an open social app. You talk to strangers in live voice rooms and video streams, and there's a paid gift economy running through it. None of that makes it unusual for its category — but it does mean a few decisions are worth making deliberately rather than in the moment.

What to keep to yourself

Live rooms move fast and feel informal, which is exactly why people volunteer more than they meant to. A short list covers most of it:

• Your full name. A display name is enough for anyone who needs to know who you are in a room.
• Where you live, work or study. Including the details that add up to it — the local team, the station you use, your shift pattern.
• Your phone number and email. Moving a conversation off-platform removes whatever in-app protections exist.
• Financial details. No legitimate reason exists for anyone in a social app to need them.
• Identity documents. Nobody in a voice room needs to see your passport.
• What’s in the background. On camera, a door number, a school badge or an envelope on the table is more identifying than anything you say.

The “Shares Location” descriptor is worth a second look if you post to Moments — photos taken in the same three places tell a story you didn't intend to tell.

Keeping spending under control

Waho's gifts are in-app purchases, and gifting is designed to be quick and socially visible. Two settings and a habit cover it:

1. Require authentication for every purchase. Play Store → profile icon → Settings → Authentication → Require authentication for purchases → For all purchases on this device.
2. Set up parental controls if a child uses the device: Play Store → profile icon → Settings → Family → Parental controls, with a PIN only you know.
3. Decide a number before you start. A limit chosen in a quiet moment holds up far better than one chosen in a busy room.
4. Check your history monthly. Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Budget & history.

Patterns worth recognising

These aren't specific to Waho — they turn up in every live social app with a gift economy. Recognising the shape of them is most of the defence:

• Anyone asking for your verification code. There is no legitimate version of this request. A code is the key to your account.
• Requests to move to another app immediately. Pressure to leave the platform early is a pattern, not a coincidence.
• Offers to top up your balance cheaply. Buy in-app currency through Google Play or not at all.
• Emotional escalation followed by a request for money. Slow, warm, then urgent. The urgency is the tell.
• Accounts claiming to be Waho staff in a DM. Support runs through the published address, not through private messages.

Reporting and blocking

Use the controls rather than arguing. Apps of this type carry report and block options on profiles and inside rooms and conversations — that's the mechanism that actually does something.

• Block to stop someone contacting you.
• Report to tell the platform. Blocking alone doesn’t flag anything to moderators.
• Leave the room. You’re not obliged to stay anywhere.
• Escalate by email to feedback@waho.live for anything serious.
• Flag the listing on Google Play if the problem is with the app itself rather than a user.

For parents

If a young person in your household has installed Waho, the practical things:

• The app is rated Mature 17+ on Google Play. That's the developer's own classification.
• Live voice and video with strangers is the app’s core function, not an edge case.
• There’s a paid gift economy with visible status attached, which creates real spending pressure.
• Set up Google Play parental controls and purchase authentication on the device.
• Have the conversation about what not to share on camera. It works better than any setting.
